The Historic Avenue Cultural Center celebrates the rich history and diverse heritage of the local community. The center is dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural and historical legacy of Mobile's Dr Martin L King Jr Dr., which was previously named Davis Avenue.
History Museum of Mobile & Colonial Fort Conde
The History Museum of Mobile is where Mobile’s story begins. Two floors of permanent exhibits explore Mobile’s history from the pre-colonial past to the present, with special highlights of Mardi Gras, shipbuilding, and daily life along the Mobile Bay. A children’s Discovery Room brings French Colonial Mobile to life for our youngest visitors, and special, traveling exhibitions are often on view, as well. Admission to Colonial Fort Conde is included. Built on the same site of its 1723 predecessor, this partial reconstruction of Fort Condé offers visitors the chance to learn about Mobile’s journey from its beginnings as a French colonial settlement to its early years as an American territory. Walk through the exhibits to see artifacts and recovered archaeological pieces of Mobile’s colonial past. Or, tread atop the fort walls to see unmatched views of Mobile’s skyline. Visitors can also enjoy a number of living history events held throughout the year.

Special exhibits to check out for Cultural Connections: Vulumazulu: The Black Solarium and Juan Logan: Without Stopping

Mobile Museum of Art has evolved into the only accredited art museum in South Alabama, with a collection of over 6,400 artworks comprised of paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, works on paper, and crafts. Its original facility of 14,000 sq. feet, located in the city’s largest green space of Langan Park, was expanded with two major capital campaigns. The last expansion of the Museum brought the space to its current size of 95,000 sq. feet. Today, the art museum continues to evolve in its service to the community, achieved through its programs, education, exhibitions, and outreach. The museum’s outreach activities include on-site classes, a partnership with the Salvation Army’s Family Haven, as well as a “Pop-Up Museum” installation in downtown Mobile. The Art Museum maintains a schedule of rotating, special exhibitions as well as collection exhibitions, including work by regional artists, as well as exhibitions featuring work by nationally and internationally recognized artists.
